If not, then check out 10 of the most common mistakes you might be making!
When it comes to my own baby business I have, without a doubt, made my own fair share of mistakes. However, with the help of my good old friends, Google, YouTube, numerous courses and investing 10s of thousands of pounds on expert coaches and mentors it is my aim to cut the most common errors I see time and time again. Cutting them to the bare minimum, so you can start making the impact on the world that you desire.
I would like you to use this chapter as a checklist and be brutal. Are you guilty of making these mistakes? If not BRILLIANT. If you are, this is also brilliant, because now you’ve caught it and you promised less than a couple of pages ago, to commit to taking action. I’m excited to see the actions you are going to start taking as of today, to follow these suggestions and start making the impact you desire.
Common Mistake Number 1:
Believing that all you need to do to create an amazing business is be great at your job.
I get it, you’re focused on becoming an excellent practitioner and this is imperative if you are going to be able to create a business where the clients come back to you again and again and again. However, if you think it’s just about being good at what you do, you are sorely mistaken. You must spend time, money and energy understanding how to market and build a business IF you want to stand out from the sea of other people who are doing the same thing.
Agree or disagree?
Common Mistake Number 2:
You’re not clear on why you’re doing what you’re doing beyond helping to create additional income for your power.
Here’s the thing, you need to be super connected to your why beyond your initial desire to create more time and money freedom. Why? Because when things get tough, being connected to the ripple effect, beyond your own personal desire, is hugely motivating and inspirational.
Do you know your why beyond your why?
Common Mistake Number 3:
Looking for other people’s approval.
One of the major lessons I teach in The Baby Business School, is understanding the process of letting go of the need for everyone to approve of you. This is such a sneaky little bugger that loves to undermine your confidence, preventing many baby business owners from putting their thoughts and views out into the marketplace in a powerful way.
Do you sensor yourself when it comes to writing or vlogging?
Common Mistake Number 4:
Giving up too soon.
If you have the desire to make a difference to the rest of the world, you must be able to roll with the tough times. This means developing nerves of steel when you run into the inevitable tough times and not giving up. One of the biggest predetermine factors of success is being able to create valuable, daily, consistent action.
Do you move onto the next project, before you have completed what you are currently working on?
Common Mistake Number 5:
Not enough time to plan.
Most people spend the majority time working IN their business rather than ON their business. What does that mean? It means that there is overall lack of strategy and they bumble about from day to day trying to clear their inbox, responding to friends and clients on FB and then wondering how the hell they have lost the rest of the day. Hello? School pick up time???
Do you know what your key plan is for the next 90 days?
Common Mistake Number 6:
Not taking enough inspired action.
The miracle formula for business and life is Faith + Action = Miracles (which you already know). It’s interesting to me how many people get the faith (mindset) bit, but literally sit around waiting to manifest their dream life. Or on the flip side of that people are BUSY, doing, doing, doing but the action they are taking isn’t aligned with the bigger vision for the world they are looking to create. What’s the difference between busy action and the action I am talking about in the formula. Alignment baby. Don’t worry I’ll explain in more detail about that later.
Do you feel really busy but feel like you’re not really getting anywhere?
Common Mistake Number 7:
The ladder is up against the wrong wall.
It’s amazing how many clients I have worked with over the years who have been scared to acknowledge – even to themselves – what they really like to achieve in the world, WITHOUT, sacrificing the health and joy of their own families. Which means they find themselves stuck in procrastination, finding as many excuses as possible not to do the work and then wondering why things aren’t working. The answer is simple. You’re not doing the thing that lights you up on the inside.
Are you doing the thing that lights you up from the inside out?
Common Mistake Number 8:
Failing to understand the importance of individuality.
When you are working in a super competitive marketplace, where the barrier to entry is pretty low, one of the most important things you are going to have to learn to inject into your marketing and your business is your personality. Why is this so important? Because my students do not want to get into a price war with the person down the road, so what is going to make you stand out? BEING YOU. No one can replicate that, and even if they try, you will always be one step ahead of the game. Authenticity ultimately wins every time.
Are you injecting YOU into everything you do?
Common Mistake Number 9:
Trying to do all the things.
When people are first starting out, it’s tempting to want to get ALL of the certificates, try and offer ALL of the services alongside trying do ALL of the social media which leaves you in the not so great position of being a jack of all trades. Johnny Lee Dumas, podcaster, says that when we go one inch wide and one mile deep, is where we start to see real results quickly. I am a multi-passionate individual, who has my fingers in more than one pie, so I get it. Learning how to prioritize the things that are going to get you the quickest results in the shortest amount of time will have a hugely positive difference on your business.
Are you trying to do all of the things?
Common Mistake Number 10:
Not investing in learning how to market and promote your business effectively.
People are scared to invest in learning how to do the business and the marketing side of their business, because it’s not the area they feel most comfortable in. Here’s the thing, if you want to grow your business more quickly, investing in how to learn to market your business effectively isn’t optional. It’s an absolute priority. And as the world around us changes, this is an ongoing commitment to yourself and your business. This is not something I just preach, but something I do with the courses and mentors I invest in on a monthly basis to keep myself at the forefront of what I do.
