You Can’t Make Money as a Baby Business Owner

You Can’t Make Money as a Baby Business Owner

Last week I spoke to one of my new recruits at The Calm Birth School and as we chatted about what her aspirations for her business were, she shared with me a comment made to her during her training that made my blood boil.  One of her fellow trainees asked the course leader if it was possible for her to make a living as a hypnobirthing practitioner (you could substitute hypnobirthing for doula, baby massage, infant sleep consultant, basically any baby business, unfortunately) and the resounding answer was no. Her coach told her very few people make an actual living from hypnobirthing.  What she should do is wait for people to find her and then put on classes as word of mouth grows. WHAT???????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So look, I’m not going to lie to you, very few instructors do make a living from their chosen baby business field, but why?  Not because people aren’t interested or don’t want to invest, or don’t want to buy, but because of bloody crap advice like this! Don’t market yourself.  Wait for people to find you.  Wait for word of mouth.  If that’s your strategy then, of course, it’ll take millennia to build a business. Here’s the truth, building a business...

Does the Universe Hates Me?

Does the Universe Hates Me?

This week has been an interesting one for me, and after the way the sequence of events unfolded I know some people would have been thinking, ‘What is this 'Universe has my back' shit? The Universe hates me!’ It was a conscious decision to write interesting (instead of tough) when describing what’s been happening, because of my commitment to my mantra. “Everything is always working out for me”. Because yes, it’s easy to say that when everything’s going fine and dandy, right?  But what about when the shit hits the fan?  What about when to the outside world, the realists, other normal intelligent human beings it looks like the sky is falling in on top of you?  What about then? This week, I had to cancel my June retreat, which saw me refunding over £6K close to the £7K worth of revenue. Ouch, fucking ouch. And then a client who I have been so fricking excited about working with in my new group coaching program, for a whole host of reasons had to pull out. By anyone’s standards, I’ve taken a bit of a slap this week. And if you were to look at my bottom line, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think WTAF? But the thing is…I didn’t think that. Don’t get me wrong, it was difficult pressing...

Lessons from the Mastermind + Retreat

Lessons from the Mastermind + Retreat

Hey Beauty, So I’m so happy to be able to let you know that I did it! Or should I say WE did it. I know that my video from the previous week touched a lot of you, to see me so outwardly shitting my pants about the task ahead of me. But writing this almost a week later, I could not be more proud of how the weekend played out. Whilst it was my job to hold the space for my guests, of course, I took the time to do a little bit of reflection every evening and this week has been one for allowing myself the time and space to ease back into real life. And yes, it’s taken four days, but hell was it worth it? Absobloodylutely. So what can I share with you from the last mastermind and retreat experience? Lots. I can’t share everything so I am going to cherry pick the key learnings: 1. We all need to take time and space away from our usual environment to think and allow divine downloads and inspiration to come in One of the comments that really stuck with me, came from one of my masterminders who all of a sudden realised she had access to a venue, that would allow her time away from the family to properly focus on the things she wants to create for her business. She said, “I can’t believe I...
