How to stop procrastinating NOW
It’s time to get shizzle done, baby!
Let’s talk procrastination. Now I know for a fact that this is going to speak to you, because let’s be real – we all fall victim to procrastination at some time or another, no matter how hard we try to stay focused and on the ball.
It happens. And it’s okay.
So there’s the first lesson: don’t beat yourself up about it.
It is absolutely A-OK if there are times when you need some down, it’s okay if you get excited about the second thing on your to-do list and end up spending an hour on that instead of on the first thing on your to-do list.
However (and this is a BIG however)… it’s up to you to recognise when it’s down time, and when it’s excitement, versus when it’s avoidance. If you find that you’re struggling to stay on track, you need to change your approach.
So what’s the opposite of avoidance? Intention.
Yep – if you want to get a specific result in your life or in your business, here’s the deal – there are no shortcuts. You have to do the freaking work and that work starts with setting the intention and getting serious about the intention.
Once the goal is clear and the intention is set, there are a few things you can do to help you beat procrastination.
Let’s dive straight in:
- Big picture thinking
Remember the vision. Remember the mission. Look at the big picture. This is the end goal, the purpose behind everything you are working towards. The big thing that you want to achieve, that is made up by all the little things that you keep putting off. Once you tune into that, it will be so much easier to take the next step – I promise. Go big, go wide, get expansive.
- Magic Number 3
After you’ve gone big, you need to go small. Simplify. One way you can do this is to tailor your to-do list daily so that it only features what is actually achievable for that particular day. 3 is the magic number. Get really clear on the three things that you need to do that are going to make that big vision and dream inevitable. Do those.
- Put pen to paper
Write it down. If you stick to this one, it will make a big difference to both your productivity and your positivity. Once you have your 3 things, write them down, diarise them. That way, you’re much more likely to be reminded of exactly what you need to achieve that day. It’ll also give you a little dopamine boost when you get to tick it off and can feel accomplished.
So there you have it. Hopefully these methods are exactly what you needed to help you focus on the task at hand and get your shizzle done!
